Jurassic Jubilation

Following on from recent successes at the Dorset County Development Meet the Blandford Flyers swimming club ended the season one better by winning the final round of the Jurassic League - the best result for nearly 15 years.

Whilst swimming is not often referred to as a team sport there was no question that this was a gargantuan team effort, with points coming from every swimmer in the team in the delivery of the final result.  Not only that, but this result secured us 3rd place overall in the league for 2019, just 1point off second place.

Head Coach Trevor Keep said he "was utterly speechless" at the final result having primarily been focussed all night on beating the joint third team, so as to secure that 3rd place in the league - the club's best overall finish for 13 years and an accumulation of the vast improvements the club has been making over the last several years.

The club committee would like to say a massive well done to all the swimmers and a massive thank you to all the supporting parents and volunteer helpers that have made all this year's successes possible.

Blandford Swimmers Flying on PB Sunday

A massive well done to everyone who swam at the weekend's end of Season County Development Meet.

We had 19 swimmers who entered the event over the weekend and between them they accumulated 59 Personal Best Times, 19 Gold medals, 10 Silver, and 12 Bronzes.  This in itself was an impressive haul for our club, it was particularly impressive by the nature of some of the PBs achieved (there were some truly fantastic swims completed) and the support given to each member of the team as they did their swims.  Strong support from their fellow swimmers and the parents shouting from the balcony really drew the best out of everyone.

Aside some outstanding individual results we ended up naming the Sunday morning session, "PB Sunday" as it turned into a bit of a personal best festival by everyone present - with PBs being set on nearly every swim and the entire morning's PB and Gold medal count being virtually twice that of any other session - all very exciting to watch and for the coaches a very proud morning - the whole weekend was in fact a rewarding effort for everyone.

A full set of results can be found in the Downloads section.

Now with just a couple of week's left before we turn down the training for the summer all focus is on the final round of the Jurassic League, where we are currently sitting joint 3rd.  It will be one heck of a challenge to still be in that position at the end of the league, but we are definitely going to give it our best shot and either way we'll make a good night of it overall.

With Tuesday night swims now complete for the summer the remaining sessions will still have some technical work within them, but there will also be a greater element of fun stuff and our last main season session on Friday 19th July will be a light session with some relays and fun races.  After that we will continue through the summer with the Wednesday and Friday sessions, which will be mostly technical, but will be fun also.

West Dorset June Meet 2019

What an amazing weekend our squad of swimmers had at the West Dorset June Open Meet where they competed with clubs from across the SW region in Dorchester. They seized the opportunity to put all their hard work at training into practice and came away with a host of very rewarding results.

16 swimmers of all levels of ability, enthusiastically took on the challenges and achieved:

60 Personal Best times
15 Gold medals
15 Silver medals
11 Bronze medals

and many fabulous swims throughout the weekend

All the Mums, Dads and volunteers involved were extremely proud of them all.
